Top Four Part 2: Fergie believes we can crack the top four
By: Martini Extra Dry | November 1st, 2008
No, not the ginger minger, the Duchess of York, nor the god-awful hip-hop / pop singer who used to ruin your day as part of the Black-Eyed Peas… I mean that miserable Scot who manages Man United. And there you were thinking that he only ever said compliments about his own players!
It is a bit surprising I know, but he was being interviewed the other day and he said that Villa are the only team capable of breaking into the top four.
After today’s games we now sit fifth, with a game in hand, that we play on Monday up at St James’ Park, knowing that a draw will take us fourth and a win will take us third. It’s not a bad position to find your team in. Particulary when you remember that just over two years ago we languished 16th in the table, just two places above our bitter rivals (the bluenoses) who were relegated.
At the time that Fergie made his comments, United were in sixth while the big surprises of the early season; Hull, were above them. But Fergie seemed to know full well that their top five placing wasn’t going to be, whereas ours hopefully will be.
Here’s what he had to say:
“I do not see anyone else breaking in, other than Aston Villa. It is possible they might do it – but no-one else.”
