Rumours, rumours… you gotta love these rumours
By: Martini Extra Dry | August 10th, 2008
Joe Cole, Jaroslav PlaÅ¡il and Carlos Cuéllar are coming to Villa Park and Barry’s staying. Allegedly.
Today’s papers come with some pretty wild rumours about The Villa, the most difficult to believe being that we are going in for Joe Cole. Not really O’Neill’s style to approach such big budget and big named players but I’m sure no Villa fan would be against the idea. Likelihood of this coming to fruition: Slim.
We’ve also been linked with Jaroslav PlaÅ¡il, a Czech midfielder who had a number of successful seasons at Monaco. PlaÅ¡il is currently with Osasuna, who are a middle of road Spanish La Liga side. The temptation of coming to Villa and playing UEFA Cup football will definitely give us a decent edge in capturing PlaÅ¡il. Likelihood of this coming to fruition: Possible.
Carlos Cuéllar is also a well known name at Osasuna, where he played for four seasons, prior to his move to Rangers last season. Cuéllar is a tough tackling, tall Spanish centre-back. He had an excellent debut season at Rangers, where he won both the Clydesdale Bank SPL Player of the Year award and the Scottish Football Writers Associations Player of the Year. Likelihood of this coming to fruition: Probable.
And finally… it’s that name AGAIN; Gareth Barry. Turns out now that the deal is off and Liverpool are bidding the £18million on David Silva instead. Apparently, Barry’s both too old and too expensive. Well, if you ask me thats a load of horseshit because Keane is older and was more expensive, but they bought him. I’ve already stated that I feel Barry is worth more than Keane, so I won’t reiterate it. What I will say though is; Liverpool: Sort your effing life out and either buy him or don’t! GRRR! Likelihood of this coming to fruition: Ask Mystic Meg!

Apparently that one never really got off the ground, so I never mentioned it. After a good season on loan at Getafe, he’s apparently giving it a bash at getting in the Real Madrid side now.

WE do need to shore up the back more, and some midfield cover would be appreciated. But O’Neill seems to prefer the quieter side of transfer dealing (ie the professional way), so any named linked with Villa where a signature is nit imminent is usually tabloid silly season garbage. Have you noticed they’re back to feverishly reporting about Maddy McCann?
