Quick Update
By: irish_steve | February 7th, 2008Sorry for not updating in awhile, exam week at school kept me busy. Lots of stuff has happened since I last updated. We played 2 matches, drawing against Blackburn and losing to Fulham. I managed to see both games and I think we were unfortunate not to take 4 points instead of 1. We have a big game at home against Newcastle on Saturday.
In the transfer window we only made one signing which is a concern because Martin O’Neill as often been quoted saying that Villa have the smallest squad in the Premiership and hopefully this does not come back to haunt us on our quest to get into Europe. Selling Cahill for 5 million pounds is a good deal and bringing in Routledge is good competition for the wingers. I never like seeing Craig Gardener playing in the wide midfield positions and think he is much better suited to playing in the back or in the center of midfield. Routledge fits Villa style of up tempo football and he did himself no harm by scoring in the 6-0 reserve game win against Derby on Monday. He should be on the bench for the Newcastle game.
I was delighted to see 5 of our Villa players receiving call-ups to the England squad. All 5 fully deserved it and it was unfortunate to see Gabby get injured and have to pull out of the squad. It was great to see Ashley Young come on for the last few minutes and Barry had a solid game in midfield. If our boys continue there great start to the season Capello will surely continue to call them up.

Yeah.. Bring Routledge will make Villa more wider…
And it give more opportunity to Carew to using his height.Posted from
