England’s forward line tonight
By: Martini Extra Dry | October 15th, 2008
The starting team for England is always a very hotly debated topic in this country and most of us fancy ourselves as a better candidate for the job than whoever is currently in the hot seat. Fabio Capello is presently in favour with the fans but a slip up tonight would very quickly turn the tides on him.
Having just watched the end of the Kazakhstan game again (with a much clearer view this time than the tiny TV in the pub on Saturday), I’m intrigued by the possibilities of a Defoe – Heskey partnership up front.
They only had a few minutes together but it definitely looked like it had potential. Defoe’s goal came from a simple through ball from Heskey and a great finish by the Pompey man, that he made look simple. The pint sized striker has played for England alongside many strikers but it has never really clicked, however this one looks like it might work.
Being a Heskey fan (a rare breed), I think he could feed Defoe with some sweet forward balls and flicked on headers and we could create plenty of goal scoring opportunities.
But… it’s all irrelevant anyway when Wayne Rooney is in such fine form. It would’nt be feasible to drop the Shrekman, but maybe the Defoe – Heskey partnership will get another run if and when the result is sealed.
