Defensive duo fees agreed

By: Martini Extra Dry | August 7th, 2008

Aston Villa have silenced the critics who claimed they’d gone ‘all quiet on the transfer front’, by agreeing fees with Middlesbrough for Luke Young and Reading for Nicky Shorey.

Villa’s desperate need for full backs now looks to be resolved with the probable arrival of these two England fringe players. Middlesbrough have agreed a fee of £5million for right-back Luke Young and Reading have agreed a fee of £3.5million for left-back Nicky Shorey.

The players are now set to have medicals and dicuss terms with Villa and with a bit of luck, they should both be Villans before the week is out.

Neither players are spring chickens, at 29 and 27, but they are both hitting some good form this last season or two and still more than capable of performing at Premiership level.

Who will be playing left back when Bouma is back from injury is yet to be seen though.
