Defeat to FC Zurich
By: Martini Extra Dry | July 13th, 2008After a nice, morale boosting 6-0 victory, Villa have been brought down to earth by FC Zurich. The final game of our pre-season tour of Switzerland, part of our preparations for the Intertoto Cup, has come to a bitter end, with Villa going down under the weight of 2 penalties.

Lauren gave away the first penalty early on in the game, but Gabby Agbonlahor levelled the game not too long afterwards. But with time running low, Villa fan Zat Knight gave away a second penalty and it was ultimately our undoing.
The starting line-up, much like against FC Wil 1900, featured many new and young players, including new boy Steve Sidwell, under-fire Wayne Routledge and Nathan Baker. Regular first teamers such as Ahsley Young, John Carew and Stiliyan Petrov spending half the match on the bench.
Next up is Lincoln City on Tuesday, the final game before the Intertoto Cup begins for us against either TPS Turku of Finland or the Danes’ Odense BK.

No worries; that’s a sentiment to be repeated loudly and frequently.
