Barry’s staying and Milner’s coming back… haven’t we heard both these before?

Aston Villa’s Official website has today announced that Gareth Barry will definitely be staying with the club, at least until January. But hang on a minute, haven’t we been told that before? Only to be told a few days later that it wasn’t certain he would stay.
In a similar story of should-we-believe-it-or-not, the James Milner rumblings are again being mumbled.
The latest Milner rumour, however, doesn’t seem to lack substance as Villa have already made a bid for him this summer, and now he has handed in a formal transfer request to Newcastle. Milner spent a year on loan at the Villa under David O’Leary and became a big fan favourite at Villa Park but he very narrowly missed the transfer deadline and didn’t end up joining us.
Since then his game has improved even more, generously increasing his price tag, and now it’s time for Villa to attempt to sign him again. Hopefully, this time it won’t be left to the last minute like a piece of maths homework.
Back to Barry, it does actually look likely that he will be staying now, with Liverpool making it clear they don’t value him at the £18 million that Villa want and with Wenger clearly living in dreamworld if he thinks that £18 million will be available to him to spend on a cup-tied 27 year old. A last minute Liverpool U-Turn can’t be ruled out until the transfer window is both closed and latched, they can be crafty like that at times, but it is looking less and less likely now.
It does, however, look very much like Barry is using this season as a shop window. My guess is that he will play his heart out for Villa this season, whilst secretly hoping that it will convince Liverpool that he is worth every penny that Villa won’t sell him for less than.

If he realy wants to expand his CV, I would love him to play his heart out to show his wares - and then sign for Arsenal. I don’t think any Villa fan would want to see him in a Liverpool shirt after this summer.

Couldn’t agree more James The First. Although I’m still struggling to see imagine a team with Barry and Fabregas. Until it’s tried out, there’s no guarantee it will be a god partnership. They may well be too similar.
