Wilfred Bouma injury update
By: Martini Extra Dry | July 29th, 2008
Anyone who saw Saturday’s Intertoto victory over Odense BK, with Freddy Bouma’s foot at an angle that no-one’s foot should be at, will be concerned about the extent of his injury. The sickening image (published here for the concerned, the curious and the twisted amongst you!) even had his team mates turning away in horror.
Bouma was rushed straight to hospital on Saturday and underwent surgery to fix what turned out to be a dislocated ankle. Concerns on Saturday were of him being out for around a whole season but now it looks like he will be back in action in between four and six months.
Bouma was one of Villa’s most consistent performers last season, playing in every single competitive game for us… and playing bloody well in pretty much every one of them too. Bouma became a rock solid left back for Villa and gave Martin O’Neill a very easy selection process in that position.
Villa’s interest in Badr El-Kaddouri is likely to now step up as replacements for Bouma in our current squad are very scarce. El-Kaddouri is Dynamo Kiev’s left back and he also represents his country, Morroco, there too. El-Kaddouri has been reported saying that Villa have had an interest in him for a long time and that he is interested in playing for a team with our ambition.
The problem I see is that when Bouma comes back, who will play? Will Badr El-Kaddouri be happy to sit on the bench? Will Bouma? Only time can answer those questions.
