Super Ashley awarded Barclays Player Of The Month
By: Martini Extra Dry | October 10th, 2008
After another month of excellent performances for the Villa, Ashley Young has been given recognition for his brilliance, being awarded the Official Premiership Player Of The Month for September. Young’s form has been outstanding all season (excepting the Chelsea game maybe) and he is fully deserved of winning this award for a second time. Not many have won the award twice but Young is the only who has achieved this accolade but still fails to catch the eye of his national coach.
Ashley Young must not know what to think at the moment. He has his manager, team mates and fans telling him that he’s the best thing since sliced bread… but then Capello telling him that he’s not even the best thing since Stewart Downing. Ashley’s form this season has definitely been enough to earn him a place in the England squad and with Joe Cole injured (especially against beatable opposition), you’d think that Young is worthy of a starting place and a chance to prove himself. Fair enough if he doesn’t prove himself but right now I can’t see what more he needs to do to get into the England squad. Surely being more in form than EVERY other player in the Premiership is enough!
So anyway, congratulations to Ashley and a heads up to Martin O’Neill for getting the best out of him. Keep up the good work Ash, we love you! And I’ll keep banging on about how good you are till you eventually get in the England team.

Tell it to the Guardian, mate; according to one of their genius writers, Cole and Downing are both better picks (with the implication that they’re better players, as well.)
They do love their Michael Owen, though. Perhaps they’re afraid of what Kinnear will call them if they don’t…
