Stefan Moore… anyone remember him?
By: Martini Extra Dry | October 13th, 2008
Cycle back a few years through your memory banks and you should recall that the Villa used to have a promising pair of brothers by the name of Luke and Stefan Moore. Luke made more of an impact in the end, despite the hype beforehand being more about Stefan’s potential. Luke had a good run in the team under David O’Leary and was part of a fearsome strikeforce that took Villa on the longest unbeaten run of any Premiership team at the start of last season. Luke then got injured and after that never quite regained his form or team place.
But Stefan… what happened to him?
Bad luck also struck in the manner of a form-wrecking injury when Stefan damaged his knee at the start of 2004. On return to fitness Moore was loaned to Milwall and Leicester but failing to make an impact at either he eventually left Villa to join QPR. Due to a mix-up the Rangers put on a press conference with Moore in a QPR shirt prior to him actually signing!
Moore again performed averagely during his time in Queens Park, including a season spent on loan to Port Vale and after three years he parted ways with the London club. He then tried his luck training with Australian side Melbourne Victory but never ended up signing for them.
February 2008 saw him sign for local boys Walsall and score on his debut, it looked like his luck may be changing. But no, Stefan failed to score again that season and left the cub at the end of last season.
Staying local and again dropping down a few leagues, Moore has now joined Kidderminster Harriers. He scored twice in a friendly against Bewdley Town and hopes his fortunes will now improve.
Good luck to him I say, though it’s got to be a bitter pill to swallow to play for a non-league club when you were once rated to be as hot a potential as Wayne Rooney!
