Second signing imminent
By: Martini Extra Dry | July 13th, 2008Following hot on the heels of the arrival of Steve Sidwell, Chivas USA keeper Brad Guzan is set to come to Villa Park, subject to gaining a UK work permit.
Guzan is an American goalie, who Villa were chasing back in January’s transfer window. Back at the start of the year, the whole deal was agreed with all involved, only to be halted by the UK Home Office, who refused to issue Guzan a permit to work here.
Since then Guzan has appeared a number of times for the USA national team, including playing 45 minutes at Wembley against England, which can help in earning his permit.

Despite interest from O’Neill’s previous employers, Celtic, Villa have once again returned to Chivas USA and negotiated the purchase of Guzan, for a rumoured Β£2 million. This time however, Villa are hopeful that the work permit will be granted and the transfer will go through to completion.
With the exit of on-loan keeper Scott Carson and long serving Thomas Sorensen, it is to be hoped that the Home Office see sense and give Villa an option between the sticks.
