Petrov’s injured and I can’t help but be pleased
By: Martini Extra Dry | October 31st, 2008
For almost a year, I (along with the vast majority of Villa fans) felt that Petrov was not good enough to be in the Villa team, but towards the end of last season, and definitely this season, he has overcome his doubters and has performed brilliantly. He has finally become the fan favourite that he was at Celtic and his place in the team is now welcomed as well as expected.
Until the last three games.
In the last three games Petrov has been very bland and ineffectual. Fair enough, so have the rest of the team, but you can’t help but think that we are suffering from a case of ‘Too many cooks spoil the broth’ in our midfield.
In the last two games, MON has named a five man midfield, which on paper looks very dangerous but have actually ended up getting under each other’s feet. So the prospect of one of them being unselectable makes for a strangely welcome situation. Without Petrov, MON will almost certainly revert to a 4-4-2 formation, which seems to produce the best performances from us.
So, apologies Stiliyan, I wouldn’t necessarily have chosen you above Reko-Coko or Milner to be dropped but I really want to get Carew back in the side.
