By: Martini Extra Dry | October 9th, 2008Randy Lerner love is flowing at full force this season, owing to his move to give the sponsorship away to local charity Acorns, his ambition in the transfer market and his devotion to the forward progress of Aston Villa. This love has now stretched to a tribute song!
The song is by a fella named Colin Davies, who can sing a good tune but look at his fake piano playing!! Brilliant!
Here’s what Our Col had to say on this video:
I have been asked to explain what motivated me to write the song for Randy Lerner. Although he has given generously to the community, both spiritually and financially (including a £5 million donation to the National Portrait Gallery), his decision to forego about £2 million in shirt sponsorship in favour of “Acorns” the childrens’ hospice was perhaps the greatest act of kindness.
I have become increasingly aware of people’s disabilities and suffering since I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease myself and consequently it is only natural that I should acknowledge and applaud philanthropy of this magnitude.
‘So many Gods, so many creeds
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind,
Is all the sad world needs’US poet and writer. Wilcox,Ella Wheeler (1850-1919)
Beyond what I have read on the Internet I know little about Randy Lerner but, as a home and away supporter, I can recognise that without his drive and business skills we would be only a faint shadow of our former greatness. The joy we experience when a goal is scored is part of his gift to us.
At gala dinners and civic gatherings I observe many awards made to people who have contributed far less to the community than Randy Lerner and my lyrics are designed to point out how much we should appreciate him and to encourage the powers that be to correct this omission. He should be properly recognised for what he’s done and continues to do for Aston Villa FC and the tens of thousands of supporters.
Colin, I take my hat off to your taking your hat off to Randy Lerner.
