Bid made for Bentley
By: Martini Extra Dry | July 15th, 2008The rumours of our interest in the Blackburn midfielder have been circulating for weeks now, but yesterday, in an interview with Paul Ince after Blackburn’s pre-season warm up match against Macclesfield, it was stated to the press that an offer has been made by Martin O’Neill.

Villa, along with Tottenham and Liverpool, have been reported to have an interest in the England winger for a while now, but no bids had actually been made. But it’s Villa who are first off the mark, with Ince admitting that an offer has now been made by Villa, but no details were specified.
It is my estimation that the bid will most likely be in the region of Β£15 million and will be dependent on the sale of Gareth Barry finally reaching a conclusion.
Bentley may well choose to go elsewhere, if he has options that will see him playing Champions League football and increasing his England first team chances, but if he were to end up at Villa Park he can fit in well with our style of play.
Bentley is an attacking right midfielder and could very easily slip into a right wing position, opposite Ashley Young. Villa’s attacking style last season won over many of the doubters and neutrals, after many seasons of us being an often boring side to watch. Our current squad contains Gabriel Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and Wayne Routledge, who are all very capable on the wings, so Bentley may well be tempted to join a side who are keen to play this way.
Would you be keen on seeing Bentley at the Villa? Can he add to our push up the table? Or do you feel his outspoken nature a cause for concern? Post comments.
