Villa down Donny to set up Goodison trip
By: Chris | February 5th, 2009Steve Sidwell, John Carew and Nathan Delfouneso bagged the goals for Aston Villa last night in our 3-1 win at home over Doncaster Rovers. That puts us through to round five of the FA Cup, and sets up a very tough tie away at Everton.
We’ve already won once at Goodison Park this season, beating Everton 3-2 in an amazing and slightly bizarre match.
I’ve little time for the Cup this season, and I think Martin O’Neill sees it in much the same way. If we could choose between fourth in the Premier League, a UEFA Cup win and an FA Cup win, it would finish a poor third. I also don’t think we need an extra very physical match (potentially two) against a team fighting for our spot in the league.
Still, there are plenty of positives. We’ve exorcised the Doncaster ghost, got Big John back on the scoresheet and Sidders and Fonzy notched too. It’s also our longest cup run in something in the region of a million years.

Guzan played last night, apparently very well.

“Slightly bizarre match” is in the early running for under-statement of the year.

I’m a master of understatement – just ask the Arsenal fans!
