Portsmouth 0-1 VILLA: Heskey bags debut goal
By: Chris | January 28th, 2009Winning three points and going third in the Premier League made visiting the crappest ground in the League more than worthwhile.
Aston Villa put in a decent enough shift. We were very good in the first half and were unlucky not to be in a comfortable lead by half time. New signing Emile Heskey roared off the mark for his new club, thumping his first goal past David James after linking up superbly with Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Agbonlahor should have made it two, but fired inexplicably wide after racing clear of the Portsmouth defence.
The only other talking point of the first half was Nadir Belhadj’s despicable assault on Craig Gardner. After mucking around trying to show off in the Villa half, Belhadj was cheekily dispossessed by Gardner. We all saw it coming – Belhadj chased after him and made no attempt at the ball as he launched a horrible kick to the back of Gardner’s legs.
The petulant little tw*t should have been sent off for that, but received only yellow. Still, his idiotic behaviour continued in the second half, when he was dismissed for a second bookable offence which was, depending on who you listen to, for deliberate handball, dissent or kicking the ball away. My money’s on the middle one.
Agbonlahor and Heskey held the ball up well until Heskey’s substitution, which coincided with Villa sitting back and inviting pressure. Zat Knight was my man of the match – he was absolutely flawless yet again.

it’s nice to see ZK put in a good game, he gets so much stick from Villa ‘fans’.

If Tony Adams doesn’t go, Portsmouth are relegated.
