Manchester City (0) Aston Villa (2)

By: DJ Cuts | April 30th, 2007

villamancity280407 Manchester City, a team we can’t beat and with former Villa player, Darius Vassell always a thorn in the side. This time though, its a different story!

Saturday was a little hazy for me, Friday was spent frequenting a few pubs then back to a friends house for more beer, poker and music to the very early hours.

When I finally made my way home in the morning I was looking after my daughter then we were all off to a friends 1st birthday party and a BBQ in the sun.

This was all well and good and a very nice time was had but it did mean that I was unable to watch the match against, what has become in recent times, a bogey team of ours. So I waited all day and avoided the news and other media so I could watch the highlights on match of the day.

When it finally came on after the proceeding (no) talent contest for a part in a musical had a surprise “double eviction night” I sat back and made myself comfortable on the sofa and the missus went to bed.

Villa and Man City’s coverage was the very last match on the program, I am sure that Villa have the record for coverage of their matches being the last item in this program! Anyway, I was pretty much prepared for the usual beating we get of Man City but was pleasantly surprised.

After City looked like they started brightly it then come to Ashley Young who showed quick feet tormenting the City defense on the left flank before putting in a lovely cross witch Carew headed neatly home.

Villa looked in control but at half time Barton fired a good shot which Sorensen saved at the expense of a corner. As the corner came in Sorensen managed to flatten Vassell, replays showed that Vassell saw him coming but just stood there, and the referee pointed to the spot.

As Joey was lining up for the penalty I was shouting at the T.V (god, I’m sad) for him to miss, I didn’t want Sorensen to save, I wanted Barton to miss the penalty and miss it horribly, which Barton dutifully did, blazing it over the bar, I’m sure someone in row Z ended up with a black eye off that one. That really cheered me up as I sat there chuckling to myself maniacally.

Chances came and went for both sides who missed the target each time and then Emile Mpenza was put clean through with only the keeper to beat but he fired straight at Sorensen.

Carew looked to be limping and was replaced by the livewire, Maloney, on 71 minutes and on 75 he curled a lovely free kick over the city wall and into the bottom corner which was the last thing to note with nothing much happening in the last 15 minutes.

Things are certainly looking better for Villa and beating a bogey team in Manchester City was just the tonic.
