If the red is rescinded it can only be because the foul did not prevent an 'obvious goal scoring opportunity', in that there was another defender between Torres and the goal, or that the ball was moving away from goal when the foul occurred. brad obviously didn't mean to bring torres down, and there was nothing malicious in the foul, but it certainly looked a foul. I can understand that in the heat of the battle the referee thought it should be a straight-red. But after watching it on TV you could tell Friedel tried to make himself small so as not to foul him.
