Aston Villa (3) Sheffield United (0)

Villa’s last home game of the season, it was important we finished on high at home an thanks to some of the best football Villa have played at home this season, they did in front of the European cup winning team of 82…..
With the European cup winning team of 82 in the stadium, the fans were buzzing, clear signs of the optimism they have looking to the future with newly crowned manager of the month Martin O’Neil and the “Randylution”.
Villa made their intentions clear from the start in a first half that they dominated, with Young, Agbonlahor and Carew causing all sorts of problems for the Blades defence.
Agbonlahor could have opened the account on 6 minutes if it were not for a fine tackle from Kilgallon and Carew also wasted 2 early chances, heading off target from from a Berger corner then taking the ball around Paddy Kenny but the angle meant he needed an accuracy his shot lacked.
Craig Garder also had a dissapointing effort after finding himself in space, the youngster certainly has potential which I hope will become apparant over the coming seasons.
The only early contribution for the blades was a Keith Gillespie volley from outside the box which was blocked.
On 25 minutes, Agbonlahor , who else, opened up the scoring for Villa collecting a throw, back to goal, and superbly turning past Kilgallon and pwered an excellent shot past Paddy kenny taking his tally to 10 for the season, not a bad figure for the youngster who only started playing in the senior team this season.
Villa continued to press and a frantic goalmouth scramble could not be converted by Barry, Agbonlahor or gardener.
3 minutes before the break the second goal came coutesy of Luke young selling Armstrong a neat step over and giving himself the space to nutmeg Kenny with a low shot.
Warnock made some changes to the United team with a few subs and a change of formation which almost proved a good move when Shelton put the ball in the net 4 minutes after the restart but was correctly ruled out as the ball went out of play before Steads cross.
A Blades defender had the next chance for the visitors, but Chris Morgan pulled his shot wide.
Martin Laursen also couldn’t finish when the ball landed at his feet after Kenny had saved an effort from Agbonlahor.
The third came via an in form Patrick Berger who started and finshed a beautiful one two with Carew with a stunning finish.
Carews had a good chance for a 4th but his header completley missed the target.
At the other end Shelton fired wide after going past Melberg.
Kenny, frustrated with his defence through the ball at Kilgallon and appeared to have some stern words for the defender, he then pulled off a fine fingertip save to deny Laursen at the far post.
The last 20 or so minutes were controlled by Villa and apart from a Shelto header that rolled wide, there was nothing worthy of note.
The last home game of the season was won with a fantastic performance and if we can add to it with another good away performance then fans will be looking forward to next season with great optimism.
Villa: Sorensen 6; Hughes 6: Mellberg 6; Laursen 6; Bouma 6; Young 7; Barry 8; Gardner 7; Berger 8; AGBONLAHOR 9: Carew 7
Man of the match: Agbonlahor.

Always nice to go out with a win at home. What are Villa’s plans for the summer? Any big transfers in store? I hear they are also doing in exhibition tour in the US and Canada.

Lovely insight into the game, forgive me for being pedantic but when did we sign Luke Young?
